What a difference a year makes

Okay, indulge me in a little personal post for a minute. It was exactly one year ago today (August 4), that I dragged my weak and very sick dh, Mark, into the car and then into the ER only to watch him completely lose the use and feeling of his body from the chest down over the next day. Then, I sat with him for the next 6 weeks as he suffered through a terrible illness caused by an unknown virus ravaging his body and then fought his way back in a Rehabilitation Unit.

The top photo is him on the very first day he was stood upright after 3 weeks of being completely bedridden. It took a lift and two PT's to get him up and then someone had to literally move his feet to get him to walk. He came home in September in a wheel chair with only limited use of his legs. We had to have the house fitted with grab bars and ramps for him. He was up and walking full-time before Thanksgiving.

The bottom photo is him running in a 5K in July of this year. He's still not 100% - his legs feel like "pins and needles", but, when we left the Rehab Unit at the University of Washington, the Doctor said, "It could be 12-18 months before he walks again."

We are so blessed.

I haven't seen you in ages but occassionally at petsmart or safeway..I don't want to interrupt you, as you look so peaceful getting groceries and supplies. A time for you to be away from the boys. I've wanted to walk up to you and tell you that I've missed you but too afraid to reach out..

Ever since I heard last year of Mark's illness I have prayed for your family. I have thanked God for those answered prayers and that your family continued to be blessed with this miracle.

your family will continue to be in my prayers...
