Ch-Ch-Changes...

Wow, I just read that Making Memories was just sold to a larger, international investment group. Good for them and congratulations! I am sure that when MM was started back in 1997 that the founders didn't have ANY idea that they would essentially get rich just a few years down the road. Talk about the "American Dream" coming true!

The new owners have very diversified holdings - including Dollar Tree. Hmmmm, can't help but wonder if we'll see a MM line sold at Dollar Tree in the near future... nope, I don't know any "insider" info on that one - just thinking out loud.

I also just heard that Corterie - the company that was trying to be started by Lisa Bearnson and Becky Higgins was scrapped (pun intended - LOL!). It doesn't surprise me. I pegged it as a "conflict of interest" for Lisa from the first time I saw the announcement. I have seen Lisa at industry trade shows - she walks around the booths checking out all the new stuff for the mag (I assume). If I was a manufacturer and she was my competition, I wouldn't trust her in my booth - was she scoping out new stuff to showcase in CK, or was she looking for new stuff to rip-off? It's a big problem in the industry. Not that Lisa would do that, but I think everyone is just really paranoid about it. Still, if I she is making money from ad dollars in CK, then she really can't compete against the people paying for her dinner, can she? Awww, Corterie was a weird name anyway. According to some at "2 Legumes in a Metal Container", "the name sounds like a feminine protection product". And, I think they were right...

As for my corner of the Scrapbook world, we just changed the format of the Business Start-up Guide. We have gone from a binder with every page in a sheet protector, to a professionaly spiral bound book. It's much nicer, as well as easier to mail all over the world. It's now more of a "workbook" to start a Scrapbook business.

Update - Apparently Lisa and Becky have just changed the company name to "Lisa and Becky" and are now making kits to blow out at discount prices on QVC.
