Coming Soon to a Scrapbook Business Near You...

A dollar spot!

DCWV already has a line of stickers and Memories Complete will introduce a new line at Memory Trends next month. Dollar products are growing as an industry trend. We all know that The Dollar Tree has their "Miss Elizabeth's" line of dollar scrapbook products. Michael's has Dollar Bins in the front of their stores (who doesn't want a rubber stamp for a BUCK!?). And Target has snuck in a scrapping thing or two into their Dollar Spot.

I am excited about the new dollar lines! I have several of the DCWV sticker sheets and they are much better quality than the Miss Elizabeth's stuff. The graphics are nice and the sticker stock is nice. I can't wait to see the Memories Complete stuff at Memory Trends.

I'll admit it, I am a cheap scrapper! I don't want to spend $10 on a single page. I want to spend $2.

I am sure this won't be the last of the companies to introduce a dollar line of products! I see this as a major trend in the coming year.

So how do you see this trend working with the types of businesses that your clients might establish?

Great question!

I think it's damaging when it happens in places like Target and The Dollar Tree because scrapbook stores don't have access to those products and can't compete. However, since scrapbook manufacturers are now jumping on board with this and producing lines that scrapbook stores can access, I don't see a big problem with it. Most scrappers think scrapping is too expensive anyway. A certain number will continue to chase brand names at brand-name prices while another group will use the more inexpensive stuff. Still, another group will be introduced to scrapping by the Dollar Store products and will seek products elsewhere. They will buy not only the brand-name dollar products, but will branch out to other product lines.

I don't see this as a problem, I see it as just another opportunity for the industry.
