Kindness: Something to think about...

Treat everyone with politeness, even those who are rude to you - not because they are nice, but because you are.
~Author Unknown

What a good thought for what's going on right now in the industry. I'm not sure if it's productive to beat someone down just to beat them down. There seems to be a lot of satisfaction in having done just that and that attitude always bothers me - it's so inappropriate to treat anyone like that. Some are starting to look like they are auditioning for MEAN GIRLS 2. Not that what happened (or didn't) was handled correctly, but, at a certain point, pulling it all down to a 7th grade level makes everyone look bad...

Kim,

I've been seeing a lot of similar posts to this one lately on scrap blogs, random comments made in chats and boards. I don't mind saying that while I know nothing about this particular situation, this kind of thing is precisely why I am extremely reluctant to actually give designing and selling a go. Without having a much better idea of what is, and is not, going on I refuse to actually try it out and quite possibly get creamed. Unfortunately, the places where I can find out about what is happening (and therefore what to avoid) are closed to me because I am not a designer who sells. Catch-22 for me and I bet a lot of others who aspire to design and sell as well.

That is such a great quote - and very timely, as I just got a nastygram from someone for something that was not under my control. I thought of your post immediately, and it helped take the sting out of the message, and I will most certainly respond in a professional and kind manner. Because *I* am nice. Thanks, Kim.

I agree that this is a great message. I encountered some of the worst attitude and rudeness recently by the promoter of the Stampaway Convention in Cincinatti that I told her that even though I had traveled 6 1/2 hours to attend a convention that I had been hearing about for years, I would not come back because of it. Her answer to me "That doesn't matter because 2200 other people will".

I believe that you should treat people as you would want to be treated. You must be more gracious when you are in the service industry or soon, you will turn away all of your businnes.

Another great quote, especially in light of all the smack blog popularity.
